Entering the Indonesian market requires careful consideration of legal and cultural factors. Local holidays can influence revenue and player attraction, and practice has shown that during Ramadan, revenues from gaming companies in Indonesia increase. With a large Muslim population, developers and publishers may find that some game scenes and characters can be perceived in a more negative manner, so it is necessary to localize games with sensitivity.

Cloud gaming platforms are a developing trend in the country, according to the Tourism and Creative Economy Outlook 2023/2024. Although the development of cloud gaming is still in its early stages, it is expected to become increasingly popular in Indonesia in the coming years.

Recognizing the industry’s growth potential, the government plans to increase private funding through a gaming fund system, aiming to raise USD 40 million annually. There are also plans for funding research and development, developing specialized educational institutions, and improving the intellectual property laws.


Cybersports is an important segment of the gaming industry, and is particularly popular in Southeast Asia, which boasts over 200 million cybersport viewers and players. Cybersports are so popular they were included as a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta.

General Statistics on Gamers

According to a survey conducted in July 2023, 58% of Indonesian Generation Z gamers were casual gamers. Among millennial gamers, this number is slightly lower, at 52%. However, millennial gamers are more active, with 48% playing regularly, compared to only 42% of Gen Z.

The survey also found that about 30% of male respondents and 26% of female respondents play games more than once a day. Overall, female and male participants play games with equal frequency.

In terms of player behavior, the majority of both male and female gamers in Indonesia were “achievers” and were driven to complete missions in games.
